Kagere Mariam from Kidokoro, Nabweru, studied Tailoring.
Before I joined Somero Uganda, life was incredibly challenging. I was a young lady with a child struggling to make ends meet. We faced a daily battle for survival with limited or sometimes no source of income. The key problems I faced were unemployment, financial instability and inability to provide better life for my child. I enrolled for tailoring at Somero Uganda and this provided me with the necessary training to start my own tailoring business. This opportunity not only gave me a chance to support myself and my child but also ignited a sense of purpose and determination within me. I now distribute my products to a growing customer base and this income has allowed me to improve our living conditions. I can now afford to pay rent for a safe and comfortable home for me and my child. I am now focused on my child’s education. I plan to save and invest in my child’s education as I expand my tailoring business and even teach tailoring to struggling youths out there.

I had dreams of continuing with my education and completing high school but financial difficulties stood as a barrier. The inability to afford school fees forced me to abandon education and left me feeling stuck. I was introduced to Somero Uganda to undertake a training in secretarial studies acquiring essential skills in typing, document management and office communication. After the training, I went for internship in a reputable company. Additionally, I took on a part time job as a library attendant in a local school. I am determined to continue growing and succeeding. I also dream of saving money to pursue further education.

I was forced to halt my high school education just after my senior four due to lack of funds. I felt stuck and unsure about how to move forward with limited options available to me. I joined the secretarial class in Somero and this equipped me with knowledge that has enabled me to secure a job at a primary school. I have gained confidence in my abilities and renewed my sense of purpose.

My dreams of pursuing university education were shattered as my sponsor couldn’t afford to cater for my school fees any more. This was heartbreaking and therefore decided to join the secretarial class at Somero Uganda. It was a tough decision but I knew it was a chance for me to gain valuable skills and create a better future for myself. Somero also encouraged me to believe in myself. My life has taken a complete turn for better. I may not have pursued a university degree but gained something equally valuable. I am now employed as a skilled secretary in a company giving me a steady income that has allowed me to support myself and family. I dream of continuing to improve my secretarial skills and advancing my career. Additionally, I am exploring opportunities to advance my career

I had to drop out of school in senior two due to school fees challenges. For 2 years I stayed home and I got pregnant which brought new challenges and difficulties in my life. Despite the challenges, I still had the passion to study hairdressing and I got this opportunity after I enrolled at Somero Uganda. The program extended emotional support helping me rebuild my self -esteem and belief in my abilities. I am now working in a recognized saloon and I am able to afford the basic necessities for me and my child. I hope to open my own saloon in future and use it to empower other young women like me.
